Final supporters
Nursery schools provide valuable early learning opportunities for preschoolers, and alternative part time childcare option for families. Funding for Nursery School programs was cut by the Manitoba government in the 1990s and never reinstated.
With the cut in funding, Nursery Schools have struggled to stay afloat. Child care workers earn less employed in Nursery Schools than when working in child care centres (daycares). Many Nursery Schools fundraise to cover basic costs of staff salaries, craft supplies and other essential materials.
We are signing this petition to request that the Manitoba Provincial Government change the current funding formula for Nursery Schools. Provincial funding for Nursery Schools should be on par with funding provided to Child Care Centres (daycares). The current funding model is out-of-date, and discriminates against part time programs, Nursery School staff, and families with part time working parents. A child attending 4 hours in a Nursery School program should receive the same amount of funding as a child attending 4 hours in a Child Care Centre (daycare).

The government has spent decades ignoring these schools but this surge of support proves they cannot hide from us anymore. We are finally forcing them to confront the fact that their discriminatory funding model destroys the lives of our childcare workers and families.

Nursery school funding needs to increase in order to offer more services and improve the services that are currently being offered. This is only done through increased funding, training, and acquiring of more resources.
ECES need a higher wager. As a ece if we are not able to maker higher wages people who love this field will be forced to leave and find careers in other fields.
Fair is fair. Whichever option parents choose for structured early learning should receive the same proportional funding as other options. It all helps to prepare children for success in school.
I agree, more funding is needed! but the Nursery School programs are not 4 hours and not on a Monday thu Friday schedule. children usually go 2 or 3 times a week for abut 2 and 1/2 hours each class!
Times have changed and it is definitely time for the government to recognize and acknowledge the importance and effectiveness of the Nursery School environment in the lives of the children they touch by giving them the financial funding they deserve. Why are nursery schools funded so poorly compared to daycare. They provide richer programming which in the end creates better citizens.
Part-time child care should be valued as highly as full time care, which also needs a boost.

As a grandparent I see how nursery schools are so important for our young people development.
