Fair Hearing For Gloria Cheng
Organization of Chinese Americans Georgia Chapter July 23, 2007 Mr. James Wilson, Superintendent Ms. Julia C. Bernath, President Members of the Fulton County Board of Education Dear Superintendent Wilson, Ms. Bernath and Members of the Fulton County Board of Education: I am writing this letter as a representative of the Asian-American Community in Atlanta and surrounding communities, particularly Fulton County. One of the most highly respected members of our international cultural community, Mrs. Gloria Cheng, has been a teacher of English as a Second Language for 21 years, proudly serving Fulton County school children and their parents. After an exemplary professional career of 32 years with a spotless record and numerous local and international awards recognizing her work, Mrs. Cheng has been accused of incompetence and insubordination and her livelihood threatened. Considering that she is a Teacher, a position of high honor and respect, these accusations are a reflection on the entire Asian-American community. To her, and to all of us, her reputation is treasured and not to be taken lightly. Please know that Mrs. Cheng plans to fight these charges vigorously and that we are supporting her efforts to restore her good name. We are asking Fulton County Board of Education to give Mrs. Gloria Cheng a fair hearing. Respectfully, Organization of Chinese Americans Georgia Chapter President, Board Member of Asian Pacific American Council of Georgia Alfred Yin
