Fix Route 955 Now
Route 955 between Cape Tormentine and Mates Corner, New Brunswick, part of the Acadian Coastal Drive, a designated provincial tourist route, has been in an advanced state of disrepair for many years. It is now in a dangerous state for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
> The edges of the road have broken away in many places, reducing the lane width to as little as 7’ in places;
> it is unsafe for cars to pass one another, let alone commercial trucks and vehicles hauling trailers;
> the road shoulders are non-existent in many areas;
> weeds have overtaken what remains of the areas which still have a shoulder and they are allowed to grow to 6’ high at times; and
> the natural inclination is for motorists to drive in the centre of the road.
Route 955 urgently needs to be widened and resurfaced in most areas for the sake of:
* Driver, cyclist and pedestrian safety
* Tourism
* The local economy
