Florida prisons are overcrowded. They are called "correctional" institutions, but are geared toward punishment.
*The 10-20-life law has tied the hands of our judges in ruling on the circumstances of individual cases.
*Increasing time served to 85% of the sentence from 65% has overwhelmingly increased the prison population. When inmates are taking advantage of programs or outside schooling, coupled with good behavior, they should be considered for earlier release.
*Parole has been abolished in Florida. Why? Again, overcrowding facilities and ruining chances of inmates who are willing to change their lives and become productive members of society. If they fail, THEN send them back for the full sentence.
