"Fowls" take back Wheatland,WI!
Hello residence and neighbors of Wheatland and New Munster,
Based on the flavorful comments on the "Kenosha News," "Kenosha County Scanner," and "Keeping Wheatland Informed" Facebook page my wife and I feel the Town Board has prematurely voted into effect ordinance No. 2019-003. (Repeal and recreate Chapter 16 of the Code of Ordinances of the Town of Wheatland relating to animals and kennels.)
The Town Board Members only completed one reading of the new ordinance during the meeting and voted into effect without any research being completed or public opinion being gathered. There was no effort or attempt from the members to visit and evaluate the request for permit from Charlie and Alyssa Hagman based on the previous ordinance; Chapter 16.10 and 16.20. Which has since been removed from the internet.
The local and surrounding communities in Racine and Kenosha counties have adopted ordinances into place to allow and regulate the raising of fowls. My wife and I were prepared to negotiate and assist the Town Board Members in developing an ordinance that would be fair to all members of the community. Unfortunately we were met with a hard "no" from William Glembocki and other board members. Glembocki stated "I know other places in the county have it (Ordinances allowing chickens), but how do you pick and chose which ones get it and which ones don't?) A statement which I made on Facebook "you take a poll of the communities and vote! The Town Board should not listen to one squeaky wheel and put a hard no into place.
With the start of this online petition I hope to gather the communities input and request the Town Board of Wheatland re-evaluate their uneducated decision on Ordinance No. 2019-003. We as a community should have input on the decisions that are being made.
In addition to signing the petition you can also email your opinion to smsiegler@townwheatland.com and also come out to the next town board meeting. It is not posted yet, but i believe it will be on August 12, 2019 at 6:00 pm. Once the town confirming the meeting date I will update. Thank you!
