We the undersigned hereby affirm. The Croatan 2013 yearbook, Finding Scintilla, was a product of much hard work and unparalleled creativity. The book was well received by the whole school, with no one having any quarrels any part of it. Unknown to the school administration, the editors had placed a few comic names throughout the yearbook just to add to its uniqueness. As students began to uncover these hidden names, they loved the yearbook even more, with public praise going towards the editors and staff for making a memorable senior prank and yearbook. The administration however, took this light-hearted joke much too heavily. They claim that the staff has ruined and defaced the yearbook and that their acts were worthy of a heavy punishment. The punishment that has been handed down by the administration is wholly unjust and unbefitting to their “crime”. This punishment of having each of the three yearbook editors pay $700 to cover the costs of the yearbooks is an extreme overreach and just a simple show of power. This absurd punishment has been met by the general population of the school with unanimous hostility, especially over social media. I am writing this petition to organize these feelings of strong disagreement by many of my fellow students and stop this unjustified punishment. I realize that a prank does not go without punishment so I write this petition for the students to completely forbid the school administration of Croatan High School from forcing any member of the yearbook staff to pay a single cent for their trivial prank, and instead make hand down a punishment that includes no financial payments. I ask for you, the students of Croatan High School, to save your yearbook staff from this explicit show of power by our administration by simply signing this petition below, and once we have acquired a sufficient amount of signatures, I shall bring this petition straight to the desk of Principal Joseph Poletti myself. Thank you.
