A Charra,
www.traveltoireland.ie is to submit a proposal to the governed powers that be, requesting that they look at tourists coming to Ireland to travel for free on all public transport. This initiative will run for a trial period.
This proposal will allow visitors to travel around Ireland on public transport for free between the hours of 10am to 4pm and from 7pm to 11pm. The idea is to utilise our transport system to encourage tourism throughout Ireland. The overall aim is to promote the many hidden gems that Ireland has to offer and to help the Tourism Industry overall in all towns in Ireland.
This initiative proposed by Travel to Ireland will help B&B’s, hotels, bars, shops and restaurants in every town and village in Ireland, outside the of major cities such as Dublin, Cork, Galway, Belfast, Limerick, Kilkenny and Waterford city.
In our estimation this initiative will generate extra 1million visitors to Ireland every year both creating and enhancing over 100,000 jobs within Ireland and generating over 300million in direct revenue.
These jobs would be in the hotels, B&B’s, bars, restaurants, support services and construction industries.
Realistically It has been over 5 years since any major construction /refurbishment projects have been undertaken in 95% of hotels, restaurants, bars and leisure activities in Ireland.
If you take the time to look at buses or trains as an example, they are 90% empty after 10am until 4.30pm. This initiative will not cause any disruption to public transport users.
We would gratefully appreciate it if you could please assist www.traveltoireland.ie in getting the support of our respectfully elected Irish representatives for tourism and the government to get on board this initiative.
