Free The Headphones Now
To whom it may concern,
The phones can stay away but allow us to listen to music.
Dr. Masha Godkin, a professor in the Department of Marriage and Family Sciences at National University, claims that “[music] activates both the left and right brain at the same time, and the activation of both hemispheres can maximize learning and improve memory" (Source 1).
A teacher playing music themselves for the classroom is insufficient. Not all kids work best with classical music, music without words, or certain genres.
A multitude of studies have shown that music can help improve anxiety, stress, focus, and even performance.
The students of Churchill sign this to petition for our headphones back. Listening to music doesn't have to be all the time, it can simply be during independent work or free time and could even depend on teacher allowance. Majority of teachers at Churchill have even said they don't mind students listening to music during independent time and don't understand the point of limiting students.
Sincerely,
The students of Winston Churchill HS
