MEP Scotland Free Tibet
Dear Scottish Members of the European Parliament, Catherine Stihler MEP, Alyn Smith MEP, Elspeth Attwooll MEP, Ian Hudghton MEP, Struan Stevenson MEP, John Purvis CBE MEP, David Martin MEP. On the 50th anniversary of Tibetan Uprising Day and the exile of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, we the concerned people of Scotland deplore the news blackout imposed by the Chinese authorities following the 2008 protests in Tibet and call upon you as a member of the European Parliament: * to call on the Chinese Government to allow an impartial and effective delegation to Tibet and Tibetan areas in Sichuan, Gansu and Qinghai, to determine whether breaches of the UN Charter on Human Rights and the International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights have occurred. * to call on Member States to neither send nor accept any trade delegations to or from the Peoples Republic of China until any such breaches have been investigated and remedied. * to put on the agenda and vote on a new resolution, in accordance with the commitments of the European Parliament and the terms of its resolution of 6 July 2000, explicitly calling on Member States to recognize the Tibetan government in exile as the legitimate representative of the Tibetan people. * to urge the Chinese government to allow free access by international journalists to these areas. Your sincerely,
