The school board reversed the decision to cut funding for extracurricular programs after our presentation earlier this week. We have secured the full budget for the coming year. I am now transitioning to a formal oversight role to ensure these funds remain allocated correctly through the next budget cycle.

This petition is going to the school board in response to their plan to cut funding for the WASD clubs, sports, and arts programs. We consider these as essential school activities. Extracurriculars are a necessary part of a well-rounded education. The kids need these opportunities to be successful in the short-term (college acceptance, scholarships, merit awards) as well as the long-term (character development). We support keeping these programs, even if it means raising taxes.

We are approaching the one hundred signature mark which serves as our baseline for requesting a formal meeting with the school board. If you have not yet sent the petition link to your personal contacts now is the time to do so to ensure we reach that threshold before the upcoming agenda setting session.

WASH class of 1996. Our children deserve these opportunities. My youngest is ADHD and enjoys singing and band these are the things that bring her out of her shell. Don’t take this from her.

I am a 6th grader at WAMS and I have loved band. The teachers are great and I’ve learned so much. I’ve also realized that music and band helps me learn how to focus better in all other classes. I was really looking forward to playing in the high school band and beyond.

As an upcoming senior, I know that about 60% of ALL sports and most clubs are made up with upcoming seniors. Please do not ruin that for us. These games and meets and shows are what we look forward to and what keeps us going throughout the year. Please don’t take that away from us.

I play 3 sports... soccer, basketball, and baseball and they are my life. I have been playing all three for 13 years. This would cut every positivity experience in high school short. I want a senior night because I have worked so hard in those 13 years.

As a former WASD teacher , student, and parent of 3 children I know how important the arts and sports etc are to the learning of our children. Although I am now on a fixed income I would be willing to pay higher taxes if it will save these programs.

I don't see how WASD can continue on the "Path of First Choice" when you eliminate opportunities for students. We are better then then this. Set an example for our children by problem solving and critically thinking how we can provide the same opportunities with less resources. Consider how all stakeholders can contribute.

I’ll be happy to pay more in taxes to keep the extra curricular activities going throughout our school district. I don’t believe freezing teacher salaries will help in the long run because we will lose teacher retention. Teachers will move on to other districts that pay more. We need our teachers to stay in our district. WASD has some of the best! The extra curricular activities help shape children and mold them into better individuals. I have a young son who is in elementary school and with the school boards plan, I fear for my child’s future at WASD.
