Get rid of the uniform policy at Allerton Grange
We should get rid of uniform because:
1. It limits student’s self expression
2. Distracts students from learning because it’s uncomfortable
3. It makes gender dysphoria worse for trans students
4. One uniform can be up to £100 including the shoes we need to have and students shouldn’t be punished for incorrect uniform if they can’t afford it
5. It restricts individuality and makes everyone the same
6. It enforces society’s gender roles
7. They negatively affect self image
8. Uniform isn’t proven to improve behaviour, the only reason behaviour is worse on none uniform days is because it’s always the last day of term and a half day when we wear it so everyone is already excited
9. Uniform would hinder students ability to put an outfit together, being told what to wear and having the exact same thing to wear every day, it’s more preparation for leaving school if we didn’t have a uniform
10. “Extreme” hairstyles, piercings and makeup don’t affect our learning whatsoever
If the school is concerned about students being bullied for not having branded clothes, a dress code could be put in place stating no expensive brands are allowed, however, students are very unlikely to be bullied for their clothes, of all things
