Get the Gateway Trail to Scandia
The Gateway Trail currently runs 19 miles from St Paul to Pine Point Park in Washington County and is the most popular trail in Minnesota with around 125,000 visitors per year. The DNR, City of Scandia, Gateway Brown's Creek Trail Association, Parks and Trails Council of MN and other community partners are working to extend this trail to the City of Scandia.
There is currently a $2.96 million bonding request by the City of
Scandia to the state of Minnesota to construct a critical portion of the
trail extension that will ultimately connect Scandia to William O’Brien
State Park. Funding would
cover construction of a one-mile segment of trail and a safety tunnel
under a commonly used road. While Scandia is a popular on road bicycling
destination, there is strong community support and a need for the off-
road trails funded in this request to provide
greater appeal and safety for families and children to use and access
William O'Brien State park to and from Scandia. As the trail extension
brings trail users to Scandia it will also add to the city's economic
vitality as it works to increase its appeal to
residents and visitors to enjoy the natural and historic resources of
this city.
Please sign this petition and tell your stories! Explain why this project is essential to you, your family, and/or to the Scandia area. We regularly forward this petition to our legislative supporters. Petitions like this really motivates and supports them in their efforts to secure funding for our area.
