Suswa River flowing from Dehradun and merging into Ganga River has a rich and pride history. Crystal like glittering water of Suswa was used for drinking, irrigation, and other household purposes. The Suswa River used to be the life line for humans and animals of Rajaji National Park. Farmlands near Suswa were popularly known for producing best quality Basmati rice. Suswa was home for innumerable verities of fishes.
TODAY
Suswa can be compared with a thin filthy smelling drain loaded with garbage and toxic waste. Toxic waste from Dehradun has made the farmlands poison producing soil. Vegetables of such farmlands are cause of cancer. It is no more used for drinking purposes. Its water used for household purposes are working as carrying diseases like dysentery, cholera, etc. Health of Wild animals of Rajaji National Park like elephants, tigers, etc. is getting adversely affected by consuming this filthy water. All verities of fishes of the river have died and there is not a single fish left in the river.
