An article was printed in the Midland Mirror on January 5, 2009, regarding the extension of the green-bin program to private business in the Midland area. According to Simcoe County's Environmental Services Manager, Rob McCullough, there are currently no plans to offer the green-bin program to private businesses. Part of their reasoning is that they feel it would be too difficult for businesses to get their customers to separate the waste. We feel that this mindset lacks faith in the average consumer who may want to support this program. As a Simcoe county resident, if you feel the same way and would like to see the green-bin program offered to private businesses, particularly restaurants, then please add your name to the online petition. We thank you in advance for all your support. Your Downtown Midland Merchants.

Downtown Midland is a not-for-profit organization established for the main purpose of revitalizing the central business district of the Town of Midland. We are designated as a Business Improvement Area (BIA) through the Ontario Municipal Act and a town of Midland bylaw originally enacted in 1977. As the Merchants of Downtown Midland, with the help of our BIA, we feel it is our responsibility to lead by example in the environmental movement. Together with the local community members who support our establishments, we hope to enact change in the way of thinking and conducting business.
