HAITIAN TPS RENEWAL

COUNCIL MEMBER MATHIEU EUGENE AND THE HAITIAN-AMERICAN COUNCIL FOR UNITY AND EMPOWERMENT (HACUE) URGE YOUR SUPPORT TO CALL UPON PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP AND THE SECRETARY OF HOMELAND SECURITY TO EXTEND THE TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS (TPS) FOR HAITI.

Whereas Haiti has suffered horrific devastation from multiple natural disasters, including four tropical storms in 2008, the horrific 2010 earthquake, and the recent hurricane in 2016

Whereas Haiti cannot withstand an influx of deported Haitian nationals who will put additional strain on the country’s ongoing economic challenges

Whereas Haiti has a severely damaged socioeconomic infrastructure, which the government is still in the process of rebuilding

Whereas Haiti is coping with an unprecedented outbreak of cholera and other public health crises

Whereas Haiti has gone through tremendous political unrest and is working to stabilize its government institutions

We, the undersigned, request that the President of the United States and the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, hereby extend the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti as a humanitarian gesture that will alleviate the country's socioeconomic burden and ease its recovery.

Please President Trump, please authorize a further extension of Tps for the Haitian people. Haiti is a beautiful nation, but it sadly has been ravaged by multiple natural disasters. From the 2010 earthquake, Hurricane Andrew, as well as a food shortage, a cholera outbreak, and multiple instances of corruption by the Haitian government, Haiti is just simply not prepared to allow all of these people back into their country. I also want to add that these people currently in the United States have families, businesses, and lives built in this incredible nation. As a father yourself, you are able to relate to the need for children to be with their parents. If Tps isn't extended for the 18-24 months, these families will be split over many lines. I beg you Mr. President to allow these beautiful people to have their stay in this nation extended further. These beautiful people are what make this wonderful nation of ours great. I know they will make you proud.
