Skateboarding is a $2.5 billion dollar industry with no signs of slowing. This is a market that is largely un-tapped in south-central PA. With that said, there is no denying the fact that skateboarding and other wheeled “sports” are extremely under-served in our community. As the population in Hanover, PA continues to rise, I feel that a free, open to the public, concrete skatepark could greatly benefit our community; from our youth, to teenagers, and even adults.

My vision is a free-to-use, safe, all-encompassing and family orientated facility for users of all ages. It would be professionally designed and built by an experienced and reputable skatepark builder that features design elements suggested by local skaters and the community as a whole.

Skateparks are proven to increase both physical & mental health, reduce illicit behavior, reduce damage to private property, and boost positive economic impacts. A skatepark would not only benefit skatepark users, it will enhance the town and will be an asset to the whole community.

Please read my full proposal by clicking here. In this proposal, I highlight a number of benefits that public skateparks provide for communities, some common misconceptions, the general process that goes into a project like this, and a plan to make it happen!

My goal with this petition is to generate and document community support. I also want to help educate those who might be on the fence about the idea. It won’t happen if we don’t get it started. My plan is to take charge, create a skatepark committee, gather the community, and get things going!
