A big thank you to everyone who has signed this petition calling for 75% residents only parking in Harrowby Street.

Our street is an island of free-for-all parking whilst every other street in our area (regardless of whether or not they have off-street parking) has resident permit parking. We also just so happen to be the only street in the area directly opposite a major sector employer who frequently use our street for commuter parking.

Despite a vast majority of people in this street signing this petition for a clearly needed residents parking scheme (including every single one of the 19 houses), well above the 60% requirement set by Cardiff Council, this has been the outcome:

Labour Councillor Ramesh Patel, has blocked the scheme, despite never having visited our street and being entirely unaccountable to this electorate;

Labour Assembly Member Vaughn Gething came to our street for 5 minutes and I haven’t heard from him since;

Labour Councillor Ali Ahmed has supported this scheme and met me in person, but has of course been rendered powerless by being forced to toe a party line;

Matthew Wakelam, of Labour run Cardiff Council, has done absolutely everything he can to block this scheme.

When challenged on this matter Matthew continually responds by reciting the councils policy on resident permit parking 'where offstreet parking is available' but conveniently:

a) always omits the fact that the council can make exceptions to this policy where offstreet parking is frequently inaccessible (which our offstreet parking evidently is); and

b) has not once met with us in our street to assess the circumstances we face.

The momentum is undeniable now. Local interest is growing and we are finally being noticed.

It's disgusting that we pay the highest band of council tax in the UK and can't even park our cars. Why do we pay so much of that tax to the police, who have Two car parks and continue to use our street as parking. The gooden solicitors and the deck have their own car park, for their staff cars but continue to park outside my house. And I'm fed up of telling the deck customers to move, they do not tell their customers not to park outside people's houses or garages and one time we asked a customer to move the deck threatened us. It's disgusting.

67 Harrowby Street. Over the past 10 years resident parking in Harrowby Street has increasingly become a problem, I've witnessed commuters parking here and later seen them at the local train station.. I fully support 75% residents only parking.

41, Harrowby Street I have been resident here since 2007 and, since the opening of the police station, have seen the situation deteriorate regarding parking fairly quickly. It is entirely unacceptable that my street should be the free parking centre of Cardiff Bay. Frequently, cars are dumped in the street parking bays as well
