Petition for a Referendum on $5 Million Debt for New Police Station and Renovation of Town Hall and the Library
This Petition is offered to Mendham Township Residents only to communicate to the Mendham Township Committee. Include your Full Name and Address for registration.
On October 27, 2020, The Mendham Township Committee approved Township Ordinance 12-2020 that supports $5 million in new debt for developing a new police facility and refurbishing town hall and the library. While the Township committee has endeavored to update the residents on the development in various forums, the reality is that very few residents understand nor have weighed in with their comments and concerns. We believe that all taxpayers need to be fully informed prior to the Township Committee’sincreasing Township debt by 50%.
To that extent, this petition specifically asks the Township administration to:
1. Provide documents defining need, planning, design, architecture and finances for the Police facility project. Also include an estimated timeline for construction and description of how the project will be funded in the short and long term with projections for impact on Township residents.
2. After the project documentation has been made publicly available, hold a non-binding referendum to establish the public’s willingness to finance the project.
Given the magnitude of financing and implications for Brookside and the rest of Mendham Township, as well as the poor history associated with construction of the Emergency Services Building and purchasing Pitney Farm, we believe it is critical to get full resident buy-in on this important project. Your participation on this petition will be a major step in that direction.
Important - please be sure to include your Full Name & Address in the Comments section of iPetition to ensure your input is recognized by the Township Committee.
