Help stop the proposed rezoning of Jaspers Brush Airfield
The Shoalhaven Draft LEP 2013 is currently with Shoalhaven Council for revision and will be opened up to public exhibition shortly. The community will then have one month to raise objections or to suggest changes to any of the proposed elements within the DLEP. Under the current DLEP 2013 draft, the site on which the Jaspers Airfield operates would be rezoned from 1(g) flood prone to RU1 Rural which includes “air transport facilities”. These are defined as “an airport or a heliport that is not part of an airport and includes associated communication and air traffic control facilities or structures.” The ill considered inclusion of the Jaspers Brush Airfield site into the RU 1 Zone would enable further expansion of the airfield and the possible intensification of commercial use at the airport through a simple DA process. It would no longer require a full statutory assessment which would include among other things; 1. The preparation of a "Key Infrastructure" draft submission to Federal and NSW Governments 2. Environmental impact statement (EIS) 3. Close consultation with effected residents and the general community; and 4. Amendment of the DLEP to provide for a strategic location or future airport development. Given the composition of the city, which is made up of many townships with residentially zoned land, the development of an “air transport facility” on the Jaspers Brush Airfield site would not only have a dramatic and adverse impact on the 'city escape' tourism market, but also on local community amenity and residents rights to the peaceful enjoyment of their properties. We invite others who share our concerns to join us in our efforts to preserve our rights to the peaceful enjoyment of our properties and the protection of the unique and beautiful wildlife, environment and agricultural heart of the Shoalhaven.
