The student's of Illinois State University's English 110 are facing a crisis they never thought they'd face. A professor who teaches the importance of the different writing genres and how stepping out of your comfort zone can benefit us but doesn't follow the same teachings when it comes to his choice of music played in class. How this dilemma began was in class during our daily journaling, a brave student decided to challenge our professor by asking if he could play some country. The student was politely turned down, but this didn't let him lose sight of a possibility of hearing a good old country song. The student still had a glimmer of hope and consulted other students to help. This was when I joined in on this issue because I believe by avoiding this particular genre that students in the class may feel left out and alienated.
