Help us have a prayer space at London Academy of Excellence
We call on Mr John Weeks (Head Master) and Mr Barnaby Lenon (Chair of Governors) to reconsider their decision to stop offering a space for prayer to students at the London Academy of Excellence (LAE). Students do not want to compromise their faith to obtain a quality education. Many students are struggling to fulfill their religious obligations without these facilities (which they willingly and lovingly wish to adhere to). This can be anywhere, a room, hall or even a lobby. It would only be needed for 15 minutes twice a day. We the undersigned are followers of the 'middle path'. We are not extremists and are proud to be British. We take pride in living in a country that values religious freedom. We call on the management of LAE to consider their pastoral duties to their students, and to look at how that can make the academy more welcoming and accommodating. We ask them to consider the idiom "where there is a will, there is a way" and to embrace the excellent British traditions of dialogue, discussion and a 'can do' attitude. LAE is a good place to learn and progress. Let's make it excellent by listening and responding to the call of many students for a place of reflection, contemplation and prayer.
