Playgrounds provide a safe space for neighborhood children to play, learn, be creative, and interact with nature. When played on, playgrounds can also improve a child's mood and emotional well-being, and help maintain physical well-being.

The playground at Holland Park does not currently foster such physical activity, nor does it promote interaction with nature. In the summer time, the playground is too hot to play on with the black surface and no shade. The playground also lacks variety in the equipment that's available, and is minimal at best.

With this petition, we ask the city to add the following three structures to make the Holland Park playground more appealing for neighborhood families and increase its use:

1. Swing set including an expression swing (a swing that allows parents to swing with their young children)

2. Shade sails to provide shade over playground equipment

3. Rock climbing wall to encourage physical play for all ages
