"Excellence Everywhere" is said to be the commitment. What about our schools?
As parents, students, teachers, business owners and taxpayers, we are dismayed at the decision to eliminate Honors courses from Rockford schools without notice to, or input from, the Board of Education, educators, parents and community members.
We understand it is the right of every student to have access to a rigorous curriculum that is designed to challenge their minds, enhance their knowledge and skills and prepare them for success in college and work.
We respectfully request the Board of Education to reject this decision and insist on a 2011-2012 high school course selection which includes, at a minimum, the Honors courses offered in the 2010-2011 school year.

Reaching 250 signatures has been a long and draining climb. I am feeling the weight of this fight tonight but I am not planning on walking away from it yet.

My son worked so hard to get into these classes. Taking them away is a slap in the face to all the kids who actually want to learn.
What about the kids who are ready for advanced work? Seems like they are being punished for trying.
If schools stop challenging kids they just fall behind. Rockford needs to get it together.
Total incompetence. How do you just cut these programs without asking anyone?? Keep the honors classes!
UNACCEPTABLE. Keep the curriculum rigorous. We need to prepare these kids for real life not dumb it down.

bring them back. my daughter was looking forward to these all year.
