Action item of petition:

Give seniors that have taken the Micro-mechanics midterms during the winter semester but did not pass to the final a chance to pass through to the final exam in the summer semester as well.

Detailed Statement about petition:

I started this petition to see if the IMTEK Mechanics Chair could finally solve the problem that many seniors in the Masters of Microsystems Engineering program are encountering.

The course Micro-mechanics is keeping many international students from graduating from IMTEK. It creates challenges for students that are finished with their masters thesis but yet for various reasons are not capable of passing even the qualifying exams to take a final exam which would allow them to receive their Masters and start a fruitful career in the Microsystems Engineering field.

Many students believe that if the qualifying exams were given in both the summer and winter semester more students would make it to the final exam. Also students feel that the Mechanics chair's Micro-mechanics pre-study packet, given before the winter semester, should be supplemented with a block course geared towards presenting students relevant questions on how to statically evaluate MEMS devices that are presented on qualifying exams.

Given that the goal of a masters is to allow students to deepen their knowledge in specific scientific areas of their interest, it is the hope of many students that a solution to this problem be found as soon as practically possible so that they may look upon their time at IMTEK as a positive milestone in their lives.
