Support the Creation of an IUPUI Green Fee!
IUPUI currently isn't a very sustainable campus. We drive a lot of miles, waste a lot of energy, and produce a lot of trash. Many steps could be taken to make IUPUI a greener, more environmentally-friendly campus, but little to no money is available for projects to get them off the ground. So what's the solution? By creating a new student fee dedicated to financing projects on campus that improve transportation options, increase energy efficiency, and reduce waste, IUPUI students can be at the heart of making our campus a sustainability leader in Indiana.
The idea is quite simple. Each semester, students would be charged an additional $10 in student fees. Students will have the choice to opt out of this new fee when registering for classes. The estimated $450,000 in revenue each year will be delivered to a new student-controlled board. This board will act transparently to distribute this funding in the form of grants and loans to projects across the IUPUI campus. Projects that have a "payback" (meaning, they save IUPUI money) will repay the fund in full. In other words, the amount of money for sustainable improvements on campus will continue to grow year after year... even with this student fee staying at $10 per semester.
