Dear 1199SEIU Executive Board:

As members of 1199SEIU, we ask that you support and endorse the candidacy of Dr. Jon Santiago for State Representative of the 9th Suffolk District. Dr. Santiago is an emergency medicine doctor at Boston Medical Center and we have had the pleasure of working with him over the past 4 years. We are impressed by his commitment to serving poor and working-class communities, many of which are residents of the 9th Suffolk District which includes Boston Medical Center. He understands and is ready to provide much needed leadership on the opioid epidemic, address issues of health and wealth inequality, and will be strong advocate for labor issues. He is also a union member of CIR/SEIU and we believe that our union should support union-affiliated labor candidates, especially candidates from SEIU.

While we respect the current state representative and his 18 terms in office, we feel that it is incumbent that 1199SEIU endorse a candidate who is ready to lead on the most important issues of the day. Dr. Santiago has devoted his life to public service and will continue to be a vocal supporter on the issues that 1199SEIU cares most about.
