While Queens Assemblyman Juan Ardila acknowledged and apologized for sexually assaulting two women, he has yet to resign from his position.
The woman who was sexually assaulted by Juan Ardila, a current Long Island City resident said, “I am calling for Juan Ardila to resign as an Assembly member and would like to see the organizations and elected officials who have publicly supported Juan retract their support,” told Queens Post Tuesday afternoon.
Governor Kathy Hochul, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Congresswoman Grace Meng, Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez, Comptroller Brad Lander, Senator Michael Gianaris, Senator Kristen Gonzales, Senator Julia Salazar, Assembly member Zohran Mamdani, Assembly Member Jessica Gonzales Rojas, Assembly Member Emily Galleger City Council Member Julie Won, City Council Member Tiffany Caban, City Council Member Jennifer Gutierrez, Queens Borough President Donavan Richards, and the Working Families Party have called on him to resign in support of the women who came forward.
We as residents and voters of Assembly District 37 call on Juan Ardila to resign immediately from the New York State Assembly to begin holding himself accountable for his actions. His resignation would be the first step of demonstrating commitment to the long term atonement and repair for restorative justice.
