JWPS Community
We, the undersigned, are residents of the John Wanless Public School community. We oppose any further discussions or actions by the Toronto District School Board that potentially could divide our neighbourhood. As a united community, we also strongly oppose any re-alignment of boundaries resulting in any of our residents being displaced from the JWPS catchment.
We are a unique neighbourhood of tight-knit families and friends. Our children have grown up together, play together in the local parks and have formed deep friendships. Our families look out for each other and are strong supporters of the local schools resulting in many volunteers and strong fundraising efforts. We are a pedestrian community with the vast majority of our children walking the very short distance to their schools. All of our residents, including those without school-age children, chose this neighbourhood and immensely value it for these very qualities.
We were asked as a community, through parent volunteers and JWPS staff representatives, to find space at JWPS to accommodate the addition of Full Day Kindergarten and future growth. Through the hard work of these individuals, it was effectively and collaboratively proven that JWPS can accommodate FDK and the future growth of the student population. However, the TDSB still wishes to continue with a formal consultation process where alternative solutions are discussed. These solutions will potentially include the re-alignment of catchment boundaries, bussing students and changing school pathways (eligible middle school and high school).
We respectfully request that the John Wanless community be left intact on the grounds that our school has already found an effective solution to the issues raised by the TDSB. We also request that the re-alignment of catchment boundaries and altering of school pathways are no longer tabled as potential options.
