Request to merge Kasaragod with Karnataka
To Smt.Pratibha Devi Singh Patel Hon'ble President Rashtrapathi Bhavan New Delhi Hon'ble
Your Excellency,
The Kannadigas of Kasaragod, living in their own land for generations, have been patiently awaiting all these past 55 years to get the government orders for merging this district with Karnataka State. The Kannadigas who are residing here strongly opposed to our merger with kerala, however the then the Union government appointed Justice Mahajan as the head of a commission to study the issue. According to the Mahajan commission report, the whole of Kasaragod region north of Chandragiri River should be merged with Karnataka. But the Central government has not taken any decision on the issue even after a long period. The whole of Kannada speaking areas including Kasaragod once belonged to the erstwhile Tulu dynasty which extended from North Karnataka district up to Neeleshwaram. During the British rule, Mangalore was the district headquarters having its jurisdiction on a vast area of Tulu and Malayalam speaking areas. Even before the reorganisation of states various Kannada organisations had demanded the merger of the whole of Kasaragod Taluk north of Chandragiri River with Karnataka. The Kasaragod Kanadigas had launched a long drawn agitation demanding merger of Kasaragod with Karnataka. A number of Kanadigas led by the Karnataka Samithi courted arrest and many of them including women were jailed following the pro-merger agitation. Today Kannadigas are facing humiliation and harassment from the people of Kerala in every department be it educational institutions, place fo work or market etc. Women are becoming victims to abuses, vulgar language from chauvinistic approach of this people. Lot of incidents are taking place, which is not reported in newspaper or television channels. Media is biased against Kannadigas in Kerala
Some are asking us to leave our motherland to karnataka, They tell us that this is not your karnataka, if you want jobs in kerala, you should learn malayalam otherwise get out. The kerala administration is fully backing them up.
Very recently, stray incidents like beating up kannada students by malayalam youths and kidnapping of kannada speaking women are happening, however the police is acting in a biased manner. We are worried about the safety of our women, children who are facing mental and physcial torture. These kerala people are unaware that double the 5 times the number of malayalam speaking people are earning and living in Karnataka.
