This petition represents a mainstay of support to keep Cory Barrett as Riverdale High School's (TN) Head Coach for the 2016-17 season. Cory Barrett was suspended for the 2015-16 season as Head Coach after a controversial game on February 21, 2015 against Smyrna High (TN), in which he strategically aligned his team to play in a different bracket than the #1 seed in Region 4-AAA to advance further to the State Finals. Coach Barrett believed, at the time, that he was doing what was best for his team to get to the finals and win a state championship. He did not intentionally set out to hurt the programs reputation, the school, community or any of his players. Despite his error in judgement, we believe Coach Barrett is the best coach to represent Riverdale High School's program after his suspension has been served. He has taken his team to one National Championship (MaxPreps) in 2013 and one State Championship in 2013. Coach Barrett has a long history of successful coaching in the state of Tennessee, having coached previously at Hickman Co and MTSU. He has a huge reputation of helping his girls develop self confidence, and play on the collegiate level if they choose. He loves his players and Riverdale High School, and wants to be their coach. We believe Coach Barrett has been punished enough by being suspended the whole 2015-16 season. His team was also removed from the TSSAA 2015 State Tournament.
