Keep food on the table for needy families
Dear Representative,
HB2 and SB194 will create additional barriers for needy individuals and families seeking participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). HB2 and SB194 will create unnecessary barriers for those below the federal poverty line from accessing food and create further health and economic disparities in Alabama.
Alabama already has some of the greatest health and financial disparities in the nation with the obesity rate at 35.6% and 19.2% of citizens living under the federal poverty level. Taking food away from our impoverished communities will increase health disparities and take away a source of funding from grocery stores and corner stores providing a source of food in low-income communities.
SNAP and TANF benefits not only bring food to the table, but also benefit businesses located in low-income areas.
Please say no to HB2 and
SB194.
