Gerber Homes is trying to get approval from the Ontario Planning Board to build 8 apartment building with 8 units in each for a total of 64 rental apartments. They plan on building this within Centennial Village and bordered by Slocum Rd, Patriot Drive, Independence Way and Old Ridge Rd. The proposed site is on a natural floodplain and thru a federal wetland. It would alter an entire ecosystem as well decimate the surrounding wooded area which is home to many of our local species of animals some of which are endangered or protected. This project would not only destroy the natural sound and light barriers, but it would also cause flooding issues and soil erosion. It would lower the value of the existing homes, increase the chance of vandalism, and erase the natural beauty of the area.
