We are concerned parents and community members who urge our leaders to act now and assign a Crossing Guard at the intersection of St Raymond Avenue and Purdy Street in the Bronx. This three-way stop intersection imposes a great risk to our children's safety and lives. On a daily basis, cars do not stop and race through to beat the traffic on foot. Many children and families from Linden Tree Elementary School, PS 106, MS 127, St Raymond's High School for Boys and Santa Maria School (all area schools) encounter this congested and dangerous intersection to and from school. One child was already hit by a vehicle during this school year and we cannot afford to wait for a death to occur. Please assign a Crossing Guard during school arrival and dismissal to keep our children safe!
The message is finally landing and the momentum behind this demand is undeniable. Local officials can no longer pretend this intersection is safe while our community forces them to confront the truth.

There are far to many drivers who have no respect for the school zone. They speed and ignore the stop sign. And, when confronted, they all seem to think that it's a joke. But, these are the same people who would go crazy if it happened to them.

Cars have ignored the right away and come close to hitting our daughter and grandchildren. This is a serious issue.

This intersection is a nightmare. They should consider changing St. Raymond's to a one way street as well.
