“IF ATHLETICS IS THE FRONT PORCH OF A UNIVERSITY, THEN OUR FRONT PORCH IS ON FIRE”

Cutting athletics not only affects those specific teams but also the student athlete family, prospective students and alumni, the University, the community surrounding, and the public perception of St. Cloud.

The student athlete community has consistently brought in proud, hard working, high quality individuals to the University who create a fantastic culture on this campus. Cutting football cuts a large group of individuals who give their hearts and souls to this University, both academically, and to their sports. The reality is that the majority of student athletes have chosen to be a HUSKIE because of their sports, not due to academics. If there is an enrollment crisis, it is illogical to abandon our largest athletic program and cut off a large segment of the Alumni base.

The effect this will have on the public perception will be detrimental to the University and it’s students. Not only are athletics central to this University, but college athletics are a hallmark to the overall college experience. Prospective students, athletes or not, want to choose a University with a strong athletic influence and culture, which we have continually built amongst adversity.

As student athletes, we wish this University showed us the same commitment that we continually show it.
