Dear Neighbors - We are living in DC because we want to have a diverse and inclusive approach in our lives including diversity in our schools and neighborhoods.

However, over the past two years, our neighbors in the 4500 Block of MacArthur Blvd have been experiencing increasing problems including trespassing, loud disturbances, violence, as well as alleged drug activities.

We understand that there have been changes in DC Housing Authority (DCHA) voucher programs which increased the threshold of voucher units in a single building to 100%. Former occupancy limits on the number of voucher holders in a building have been eliminated and it does not appear social services are being provided. All this activity undermines our vision to build an inclusive and safe neighborhood for our community.

Partially as a result, a greater number of voucher and other subsidized residents now live in several adjacent buildings including 4560, 4564 MacArthur Blvd NW and other close-by low rise apartments. Unfortunately, the problems have gotten worse, necessitating Metropolitan Police visits several times per week.

Please sign this petition and join us to urge the city to better support its policy on low cost housing and socioeconomic diversity by taking necessary steps to ensure public order and providing necessary social services. This may also include the need to reverse the city's decision to allow unlimited occupany of voucher holders.

You can also call Councilwomen Mary Cheh's office at 202-724-8062 to let her know we need the city to help avoid a crisis in our neighborhood.
