The City of Forney, Texas, proposes to bring Community Park into the Entertainment Overlay District which would allow the sale of beer/wine at the Spellman Amphitheater. This is designed to bring in large scale national concerts. While the City is proposing limiting the numbers of events per year and providing certain security measures, it does not change the location of the amphitheater which is surrounded by neighborhoods and schools, BACKED UP to a daycare, church, and senior adult living center and situated on FM-548, an already congested thoroughfare. Do you want large concerts that sell beer/wine at Community Park?
The City Council believes only a small clique of the community opposes beer/wine sales at the amphitheater in Community Park so let's use this petition to find out.

The zoning and other development issues must be changed or exempted to make this work because beer/wine at the amphitheater ---
Is shown in the "Center Zone" of the comprehensive plan (the city's vision for future development and the basis for all zoning decisions). The center zone serves as the residential backbone of the community with "little or no commercial intrusion"
Cannot meet current zoning requirements
Cannot meet minimum parking requirements
Has no restrooms (concession stand has a few but outside gated amphitheater)
Cannot meet statutory minimum distance requirements from churches, daycares, hospitals and schools (City of Forney asserts that it technically does)
Cannot follow the Parks and Rec ordinance (no beer/wine allowed in city parks)
Will dump cars for 4500 people on FM-548 although the single entrance/exit has no traffic signal
Will close the park several times a year to the public (frequency can increase)
Will require a park ordinance amendment to allow beer/wine in park
Has bypassed the Park and Rec Board altogether (no recommendation from them)
