Final supporters
The wider community of Kerikeri is growing . Rolls at the local schools have increased steadily over the past 5 years as have the rolls at our GP's and medical practitioners. More and more families are moving into the area which has also served to put pressure on our sports facilities and resources.
Kerikeri is home to the biggest Football Club in Northland with about 500 playing members . They have far outgrown their current facilities and exist purely on the goodwill of the local schools , but the Football Club is not alone . Most sporting codes within the local community do not have a place to call "Home". Gym Sports , Hockey , Rugby League , Squash , Cricket and Athletics to name a few .
What Kerikeri needs is a "Sports Hub" to accommodate all of these sports .
The Council have set aside funding in the FNDC Long Term Plan fo land purchase for the purpose of sporting activity . Over the past 12 months a steering group of local Business people have been working with a local landowner to develop a community sports hub on his land which would provide a base for all the sports codes .

The feedback from local families continues to confirm just how desperate this situation has become for our kids. We are still pushing for progress behind the scenes even when the meetings feel endless and the results seem slow to arrive.

Its a no brainer.. Making a "hub" with all the other sports going forward makes economical sense. With Kerikeri's projected growth lets do it once and do it right. I would suggest allow also for a swimming pool/ gym as well, because the Gym in town must be near capacity and removing the users vehicles from the overburdened parking facility's in town makes sense.
Currently gymnastics is carried out in a dilapidated old building, there are no squash courts, the football club does not have enough playing fields and cricket needs to have a home. With a growing population, a Sports centre is definitely needed.
Our club was established in 1976 by Alan McLeod and has never had an established place always being moved on. We have helped hundreds of children in the community by being involved with gymnastics which is the foundation of all sports. We have no home, we are 100% behind the new proposal for the sports hub, it is a 'must have', a 'need' not a 'want'.
There is a lot of sporting talent in Kerikeri and the surrounds. In the past sports-persons have been forced to travel to Auckland to further their sporting careers due to the lack of facilities in the area. Sports need a focal point which local sports-persons can utilise. Hopefully that will improve the standards and enable the area to retain their talented individuals
Totally support an Integrated sports hub in Kerikeri. As a football coach, I see this area badly needs facilties not only fields but fields with quality lighting that will benefit players and spectators as well .
Desperate need for upgraded and new facilities.
We need facilities that represent our diverse and expanding community.

Desperately needed before any available land is snapped up by developers and retirement villages. And Kerikeri Cricket Club - established 1896 - STILL doesn’t have a home ground!
