KHAMIS HIGH SCHOOL: We OPPOSE Change of School Motto
The Khamis HIgh School is a Premier Academic institution in Mombasa County, In the Republic of Kenya.
This school has brought forth many a distinguished scholars and business and corporate leaders since it's days as the Arab School.
Throughout, the school has had a motto "Maendeleo Daima" which means, "Always Progressing"...., a motto which was even copied by a local primary school, MM Shah but which Latinized the Motto to "Semper Pprogrediuntur", which means the same as Khamis High schools Motto "Maendeleo Daima" but in Latin.
As Old Students of the school, we were shocked by blatant attempts to change our history, identity and deflate our pride by changing the Motto to a rather flat, tasteless and uninspiring Motto "Endevour to Excel".
This Motto is a very common Motto and we believe it is not appropriate. It not only robs us of our identity, but also makes a mockery of the very society the school is based at... A Swahili speaking people, full of pride of their language. What message does this change send to the Kiswahili Speaking people of Kenya?
Is Kiswahili Bad? Is English superior than Swahili? What message or motivation will the Candidate and general students of our beloved school derive from this unashamedly flat Motto?
It is to this end that we as stakeholders of the school, by virtue of our being the Old Boys, hereby append our signatures to this Petition that we hope will trigger a rethink of the whole project of changing the Motto.
PLEASE WRITE YOUR YEAR OF GRADUATION FROM FORM 4!! IMPORTANT!
Sincerely,
Khamis High School Old Boys.
