Latinx Studies @ Princeton University
This petition is meant to show support for the recent report, "Campus Concerns on the Program in Latino Studies", published by Princeton University Latinx Perspectives Organization (PULPO)
"The purpose of this report is to center student voices in the decision-making process in improving the current state of Latinx Studies at Princeton University. More specifically, PULPO aims to bridge administrative bodies to first-hand student accounts of the effects of Latinx Studies at Princeton in the form of campus life, scholarly growth, and academic development.. Current concerns for the state of Latinx Studies rest mainly in the lack of permanent faculty, limited course offerings, and inadequate levels of outreach. Although the number of LAO courses has improved in the past semesters, there has yet to be an improvement in faculty hires or student outreach. On behalf of the Princeton University Latinx Perspectives Organization, we call Princeton University and its associated individuals to action in: (1) creating a Latinx Studies department, (2) forming a student advisory committee for The Program in Latino Studies, (3) reviewing a name change of the program in the next year, (4) and rivaling peer institutions through scholarly and institutional commitment to acknowledging a historically neglected Latinx presence."
