To whom it may concern,

Rules in Dubai Modern Education School have been changing over the years, and with the development of technology, phones have played a huge and important role in our lives.

Several schools around the world allow their students to have their phones with them at all times. All what we’re asking for is simple, and with this petition we hope you will not turn down our request.

We request that you allow us to keep our phones with us, and use them between classes, or when we’re free, we would not use our phones for “useless purposes,” we would use it to help us search in class, because not every student has an extra gadget such as a tablet or a laptop, besides phones are lighter, smaller, and more accessible. Of course we respect teachers and their lessons, but some students wouldn’t have that in mind and some teachers wouldn't enjoy that, we have the perfect solution. Students who aren’t interested in the lesson will obviously decide to go on their phone and use social media, luckily social media is blocked in the school, so they will not be able to use it. Regarding the teachers who don’t like seeing their students with phones, a phone box could be provided in their classroom, and each and every single student will drop their phones when they first enter the class and take it when they leave, if that teacher spots the student with a phone they can confiscate it and return it to the student by the end of the class, or day if repeated. Phone calls aren’t allowed during classes to avoid disruption, unless necessary.

We believe that legalizing mobile phones would not harm anyone, instead students would feel less opressed and more motivated to enjoy school. It’s an easy and simple step, please do not let us down!

Regards, your hardworking students who always want to make DMES a better place.

*This petition is signed by students, parents, and teachers that would love to see this change in the rules for phones in DMES.

Updates

September 5, 2018

The feedback regarding phone usage policies has been insightful and suggests that many students share a common vision for classroom technology. I am currently organizing these perspectives to ensure that our proposal addresses the valid concerns raised by faculty members. Further meetings will be held soon to present these refined ideas to the school administration.

The level of traction this initiative has gained confirms that many of us share the same perspective on modernizing our school policies. It is encouraging to see such steady commitment toward a more practical approach to technology in the classroom.
