We the residents request that the basketball courts at Liberty Heights Park (1540 S 62nd St, West Allis, WI 53214) be removed for the health, safety and welfare of the neighborhood and the community. Our neighborhood park is being abused, disrespected and vandalized by unsupervised youths and young adults leading to an unsafe level of violence, drug use, litter, graffiti and excessive noise and profanity in this neighborhood park.
These issues have been ongoing and increasing for quite some time and we want our park back! The basketball court area has become a gathering place for those who disrespect our park, our West Allis Police and the residents of the neighborhood.
As a concerned resident, I hereby sign this petition in favor of removing the basketball courts from Liberty Heights Park to help make it a safer, cleaner and more beautiful park to enjoy again.

The massive pile of support we have gathered proves that the city can no longer ignore the lawlessness ruining our park. West Allis officials need to stop turning a blind eye while these courts destroy our neighborhood quality of life.

I support a safe place for children and families to play. If courts need to be removed to encourage a safe oasis, I fully support.
I always enjoyed the park when my daughter was young (30 yrs ago) and I'm a bit sad to think that this could be the only option. I'm signing in support of the neighbors that live closer to the park. They need to be heard. We need to have the park and their neighborhood safe for the children.
I feel and see the unsafe situation too. They gather all over the wall and it is starting to feel like a gang member park. I can't even take my 8 and 6 year old son to play basketball because they always have it taken over with their large groups of bad language. I would love to see that area made into something my young children can use.
These basketball courts have been an issue in our area for a long time! I don't know why when the remodel was done they were put up again!
I've always been of the mind that the courts are a good thing because it's keeping kids there instead of out doing God knows what elsewhere. But lately I'm feeling differently. I didn't feel safe the other evening when I could hear fighting on the courts, and the trash everywhere angers me. We have such a beautiful park and half the people that use it don't respect it. The basketball courts are a nuisence. Drop the P.C. crap and do what's right for the residents and TAXPAYERS, not visitors trashing our parks.

As a resident of 26 years residing approximately a block away from the park, I've seen the trouble escalate every year at the park. I'd hate that fact that our own residents can't use the courts as outsiders take control over our neighborhood park and destroy what the taxpayers & city work so hard to provide for everyone to enjoy. Sadly it's come to where we have to resort to the same action the City of Milwaukee has in resulting the removal of the hoops in their parks brining the problems into our city. It truly makes me sad & frustrated.
