Maintain The Grove-St. Louis
This petition is intended to alert Park Central Development, Ald. Joe Roddy and Raising Cane's about the concerns Forestpark Southeast residents, business owners and business patrons have specifically regarding Raising Cane’s but also to set forth concerns about future development in the area. If this petition is too late to have a significant impact on the Raising Cane’s project, please allow it serve as notice that: 1) residents in the area are concerned whether future business development in the area will meet applicable standards required under the current statute and 2) concerned members of the community will boycott this restaurant, if it opens.
While the city is working on a Form Based Code, this petition can help push that code forward with even more stringent standards at an expedited pace with hopefully more community participation and feedback.
As residents, business owners and patrons in the Forest Park Southeast area, our concerns are as follows:
- Allowing this or a similar large out-of-town corporate development in the area that is driven by local entrepreneurs will have a negative effect on the area’s already-rich business culture and diversity in the future.
- This type of development often spawns similar future development that will only weakens the momentum of a growing business district and area that needs to maintain it’s unique identity to be successful.
- The minimal amount of revenue this project would contribute to the area would be offset by future loss of value and damage to the Grove character and ‘brand' and that continues to gain equity within the city and beyond.
- Architecturally, and with the inclusion of the street facing drive-thru, this project does not conform or fall in line with existing structures within the area.
We ask Park Central Development, Ald. Roddy and Raising Cane's to reconsider this project and future development in an area to make sure it aligns more with current standards that continue to make this area unique and a bright spot of growth in the City of St. Louis.
