The 4105 Student Grievance Procedure UC Policy states that if students want instances of discrimination to be investigated, "such alleged discrimination must be based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, handicap, sexual orientation or age." By including the word sex but not gender, UCSB is excluding the rights of those who are non-binary and those who are not cisgender, meaning that their gender identity is not considered to be normative for their biological sex. By signing this petition, we can help UCSB policies, and therefore UCSB as an institution, become more inclusive.

I am currently coordinating with student groups to formalize our request for a policy review. Email the campus administration today to demand they update the grievance language to include gender identity. Post this link on your social media accounts so the pressure remains on the university.

Ridiculous that this is still a gap in policy. fix it now.
Bout time we updated this. everyone deserves to be protected regardless of how they identify. do better.
basic human rights for all students. not that hard to understand.
so many students feel pushed aside because of old wording. update the language already.
it is 2017 why is this even an argument?? gender identity is real and should be protected. wake up ucsb.
