Mandatory Mental Health ED K-12
Our youth spend more time in school than they do anywhere else except their own home. School is one of the best places for both educators and students to become increasingly aware of mental health, mental health problems and mental disorders. There are a number of school mental health initiatives in development, and are constantly looking for teachers, schools, and school boards to pilot, test and help agencies & professionals develop more depth and breadth to our children's mental health. In light of recent public school violence, our children need a structured environment where they can effectively express their mental being. Grief/death, anxiety, 8eating disorders, suicide, addiction etc are a few of the many topics that NEED to be addressed. I also believe lived experience(peer recovery specialist like myself) are perfect for such a platform. No clinical dialogue like a therapist(however to work side therapist to provide quality care) yet an empathetic experience with a lived point of view. Such a platform will also be able to provide educators/professionals with a repository of evidence-based programs, and materials that can aid in helping to develop and deliver interventions that can improve youth mental health effectively and efficiently.
