Maya Paige McGrew, Sophomore, Vice President
Hello fellow Titans! I am Maya McGrew, a dedicated student hailing from Joliet, Illinois, and I'm thrilled to announce my candidacy for Student Senate Vice President alongside Jacob Bickett as President. Allow me to share why I'm committed to this role.
My journey at Illinois Wesleyan University has been marked by a passion for education, exemplified by my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Educational Studies and a minor in English. My time as a Teacher Intern at the Center for Urban Teaching in Milwaukee, where I tailored engaging lesson plans for diverse learners, solidified my commitment to student growth and development.
I've also gained valuable experience as the Special Events Coordinator at Illinois Wesleyan University, successfully orchestrating events that require budget adherence, vendor coordination, and unwavering client satisfaction. Furthermore, my role as the Intramural Sports Manager has sharpened my organizational skills and record-keeping abilities.
During my two years at Illinois Wesleyan University, I've been an active and dedicated member of the Student Senate. Serving as the Civic Engagement Co-Commissioner, I've had the privilege of representing the class of 2026, channeling student concerns and comments at general assembly meetings, and actively participating in key committees like "Campus Safety," "CETAL," and "Civic Engagement." This experience has deepened my understanding of the importance of student governance and the impact it can have on our campus community. My involvement in Student Senate has fueled my commitment to advocating for our fellow students, and I'm excited to bring this passion to the role of Vice President alongside Jacob Bickett. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our peers.
In addition to my academic and leadership achievements, my certifications in areas like BLS Provider, CNA, and EKG Tech, coupled with skills in health and safety management, client relationship building, and more, underscore my dedication to excellence.
But what truly motivates me is a passion for service and advocacy. As Vice President, I aim to ensure that the student body's concerns are heard and addressed. By serving as the bridge between our administration and the students, I'm committed to amplifying your voices and fostering an environment where every student can thrive.
It's my belief that together with Jacob Bickett as President, we can steer our university towards greater heights of inclusivity, engagement, and progress. I look forward to working alongside you, and together, we'll create a student senate that truly represents and empowers our diverse community. Thank you for your support!
