Final supporters
A decision was made by the Sedgwick County Area Educational Services Interlocal Cooperative (Coop) to move Maize High School FAA students to Maize South High School, beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Parents, families and friends of these students were not notified, in advance, of an impending change and were not given an opportunity to voice their discontent.
A group was present at the USD 266 school board meeting on Monday, December 12, 2016 to bring this injustice to the board members attention. USD 266 has added this topic on January's agenda for further discussion.
There will be a meeting of the Coop on Thursday, December 15, 2016 in Goddard. It is our intention to provide support, via this petition, for those that will be present at the meeting.

Frankly I am shocked that the very people who are supposed to be "experts" on kiddos with special needs do not understand the deleterious effects of moving these kids to a completely different building. It has been my experience that parents know best about how such things will impact their kids.
The world already creates enough challenges for these kids. MHS is their safe place with trusted staff and peers who encourage and love them. Provide the least restrictive environment for these kids, as you're LEGALLY REQUIRED to do, Co-op, and leave these kids where they BELONG.
Truly not fair that ALL STUDENTS were considered EXCEPT for the Sped/FAA kids. Caroline is in that group that might be forced to move and she will be starting her Junior year. I don't see how that is fair?
My special needs son was a student at Maize and graduated in 1990. While in the Coop he had to change schools several times and I know how that impacted his life. Don't let this happen to these future Eagle alumni. Let them stay at MHS.
Maize High School is more than just a building for these students. Friendship club changed my life an led me to choosing my career being a special education teacher. Friendship club was founded at Maize High School and should remain at MHS with all the FAA kids.
Please keep our children structured and on the same routine of what they know!
Please listen to the parents, they know what's best for their child. Don't take them away from peers that want them around.

Very disconcerting that they made this decision without any input from parents. In addition, some kids with special needs don't fair well with change like that, they should have known better.
