we actually pulled it off. safeway finally confirmed they are hiring more staff and adding actual security to the monterey location starting next week. im honestly just so relieved we kept the pressure on until they listened.

For years there has been talk that this Safeway was going to get a full remodel and upgrade from the current version. For years I have watched this Safeway go from "bad" to "worse", as robberies are happening daily, and employees overwhelmed by the lack of support from the city and the company itself. Not to mention, the only security guard that is on duty is overwhelmed by the amount of theft daily. Most of the food inside the store on the shelves is expired and that is due to the lack of employees. I live in the neighborhood and needed to pick up milk on November 4th, 2022. I noticed every single bottle of alcohol, except for the exception of two bottles, were left in a locked cabinet. I asked what happened, and to no surprise, I was told that robbers came in and stole everything! It is not okay for this to continue happening in our neighborhood. It is not right to have to be on the lookout for criminals while shopping for our groceries. Multiple times I have seen countless individuals walk into this Safeway and leave with a shopping cart full of unpaid items.
The goal here is to collect as many signatures as possible to make a change. I need the community and neighborhood to be in support of this tragic downfall of what we call a grocery store.
We need:
- More employees, including a second or third security guard on duty
- Fresh produce that is checked regularly to ensure it is not expired
- Remodeling of the entire store
- Support from the county of San Francisco and Safeway Inc.
These issues are serious and need to be addressed immediately. I am calling on the community, the county, and Safeway Inc. to step up and support our local grocery store to create a safe, and welcoming environment for everyone. This is long overdue. It seems too often today; a change doesn't happen until a life is taken or something extreme occurs.

Sad I went there with my mom as a child and it’s a literally disaster now a days. So ridiculous. Needs a police officers presence.
I have contacted Safeway headquarters multiple times about the safety. I have seen the store robbed and vandalized. And sadly the hard working staff have their hands tied as they are disallowed from any interactions with thieves or vandals. And security at the store is shameful as they just stand there and don’t attempt to stop the thievery.
Safeway is putting its longtime employees at this store at risk by not having enough staff and not addressing the shoplifting proactively. Also, the store is in dire need of a remodel.
It is disappointing that this much needed store has been allowed to deteriorate the way it has instead of getting the promised re-model that we were all looking forward to.
Not only the robberies, but where is the manager? So few cashiers. Out of goods. A change is very much needed.
Stores help to make neighborhoods.

Ive experienced more on seeing stealing right in front of me! Its not like safeway can not afford an off work officer to guard the safety for both customer and store!!!
