I for one as a small radio station owner does NOT feel PPL and PRS are doing things right. I'd like to explain.

PPL charges a fair bit per year. Now people can go buy one track from iTunes, Apple Music etc etc for £1 or cheaper, they then have rights to that song in the fact that they can listen to that song as many times as they wish. Us as station owners, have to pay for the track and then pay the artists MORE to use it.

Not only that, there is more. We are a promotion point for these artists. If there are 5 people listening to a show, you play brand new Ellie Goulding. They then love that song, they listen to it on Spotify, buy it on iTunes etc etc. Then the artists gain money AGAIN! They could as well as buy that track, become a fan of many more Goulding songs and buy t-shirts, pens or even gig tickets.

As many online stations do not earn money, we struggle a fair few of us to come up with these licensing costs. I am not saying screw PPL and PRS all together. But make it more easy for us. Bring in a £20 a month package possibly, or lower costs. Its hard for us who as me being 15, are trying to succeed in radio. Trying to keep a station going IS hard work in witch case some do not pay there PPL and PRS. Witch is then a loss for you. So please listen to us, and make it more affordable or bring in a pay monthly thing. On both PPL and PRS. Its not fair...

Also so many people under 16 who can't get a WELL paying job to pay for PPL and PRS, want to open a station. Me included, so possibly something also for U18s.
