Cardinal Hume Catholic School, Gateshead, has set out a new policy which restricts individuality and expression of the individual. Their new uniform policy has commanded that "long hair must be tied back at all times" and that "hairstyles and colours must be deemed socially expectable by the school". This indirectly discriminates the individuality of girls as well as some males who all have long hair. There are many articles on such topic mentioning that wearing long hair tied up damage the hair as well as making the individuals prone to headaches. As for colours and styles, it is all opinion based and teacher judgement may be bias depending on the student. In this current day and age almost everything is socially expectable which suggests the school will not base such opinions on the real belief of society from this current generation.

The stories you are sharing about hair damage and scalp pain are proving exactly why this policy needs to be scrapped. I am currently compiling these accounts to deliver directly to the administration.

Why should creative hair colour not be acceptable ??....your policy basically gives the school the right to on any hair style which in their opinion is NOT sociable acceptable

WHY must long hair be tied back? Do you go out into the working world and see people enforcing such policies? The answer you're looking for is no, you don't

Their standards are too high to begin with and lead to people getting stressed on a serious level. To take the right away from us to wear our hair down and how we like is predjudice as the boys are excluded from this rule.

If students were to get headaches because of their hair being tied back it would take them away from school work or paying attention to a teacher while they give a lesson which can hurt them in the long run.

I agree that pupils should wear school uniform. But it should be up to the pupils parents regarding their hair etc.

just don't understand wny the boys policy is tiny in comparison to the girls . The girls have basically an essay paragraph for policies but boys have a small paragraph . Don't appreciate having to go into a very judgemental place feeling even more insecure and not concern treated on work
