NO JAIL IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD Washington County Commissioners have chosen the corner of Oak and Adams to build a new county jail. This location is surrounded by residential neighborhoods on three sides. Considering the recent jail break that occurred on January 8th, we believe it is imperative for the county jail to be away from homes where children play. This proposed site is not acceptable for the following reasons: - Safety concerns - Environmental damage - Social justice issues - Community identity - Traffic problems - Zoning issues We, the signers of this petition, call upon the county government to END CONSIDERATION OF A NEW JAIL FACILITY at the Oak and Adams and find a NEW location that will be at least 1/4 of a mile away from all residential neighborhoods.

Neighbors for Justice is a community organization developed to protect the rights in interests of the neighbors near the proposed jail site. As concerned citizens, we want a responsible approach for a jail in Washington County. We believe that a jail should be built, but only if it is built in a non-residential area. We believe that a jail should be built, but only if it will not detrimentally affect the growth and financial condition of the area where it is built. We believe that a jail should be built, but only if the City and County follow proper zoning regulations and standard procedures for zoning changes and zoning appeals. We believe that a jail should be built, but only if the City and County attribute equal amounts of respect and dignity to all citizens of Bartlesville.
